Certain species of fish take certain flies because of 2 reasons. one, the fly looks like the food source they forage on and two, fish will attack certain flies out of aggression. They take the fly as a treat to their territory. Not all fish are the same or have the same diet nor, do they all live in the same environment. Hence, the multitude of different fly patterns.
