I use the rusty possum color of Mr. Betters' Ausable creations in many flies here in Vermont (not far from Mr. Betters' Ausable River). But unlike the Ausable Wulff's variation on Lee Wulff's fly, I suggest the fly that can be used in all occasions, imitating most any stage, fished dry or pulled under. A fly that has been transformed (like Lee Wulff's fly) into other key flies--Fran Betters' The Usual. A wet Usual shows the coloration of the thread through the translucent snowshoe. Mr. Betters (who still ties and sells his signature flies) used fire orange thread, and his Usual is a go-to fly. This would make a great drawing. I've enjoyed viewing the many different styles and media used in Mr. Kennedy's fly drawings, and would like to see what he can do when the simple materials of snowshoe and thread meet the dynamics of water and light. What should you draw: The Usual.

Tying Note: by changing the color of the thread, you can have flies such as olives and sulphers using the same creme snowshoe.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13703462512350458412noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-524698786610468130.post-54082759193515178172008-12-02T16:26:00.000-06:002008-12-02T16:26:00.000-06:00Looks like you've got a few Adirondack readers!Looks like you've got a few Adirondack readers!Flying Tieshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10585385276432258117noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-524698786610468130.post-74773204856889196102008-12-02T07:33:00.000-06:002008-12-02T07:33:00.000-06:00In honor of Fran Betters who was just inducted int...In honor of Fran Betters who was just inducted into the Catskill Fly Fishing hall of Fame, and owner of the Adirondack Sports shop on the Ausable near Lake Placid NY, how about the Ausable Wolf.Adirondack Craftworkshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10413518111141616070noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-524698786610468130.post-39269371638270887312008-12-01T21:37:00.000-06:002008-12-01T21:37:00.000-06:00I'm going to enter what is, by far, my favorite fe...I'm going to enter what is, by far, my favorite feather wing streamer.
